Plenty of house. Not enough connection.
The upper rooms were charming but isolated from the garden, while a dark and fragmented lower level handled storage without becoming useful living space. The family needed everyday gathering, a quiet work room and better arrival without erasing the home they valued.
A new rear pavilion establishes a garden-level centre of gravity. The old stair becomes part of a clear vertical route, and the repaired upper rooms remain quieter spaces rather than being forced to do everything.

Investigate before demolition
Selective openings and engineering input tested the existing frame before the final strengthening scope was committed.
Protect retained fabric
Access, temporary weathering and dust separation were planned around the parts of the house staying in place.
Record variations
Changed work was described with cost and programme effect before proceeding, except where immediate site safety required action.
